  • Cobija Weather, Bolivia
The seasons in the lowlands of the Amazon Basin are less pronounced than in other parts of Bolivia, and temperatures are high year-round. Heavy rain falls during the summer (Nov-Apr) in unrelenting downpours that fill the streets with mud and the sound of croaking frogs. Although winter is drier than summer, it also sees a good measure of the wet stuff. If you're unlucky you may experience the unpredictable surazo , a cold wind blowing from Patagonia and the Argentine pampas, which produces frost and a dramatic drop in temperature, even in the hottest parts of the jungle.

    Cochabamba Weather, Bolivia

The saying 'Las golondrinas nunca migran de Cochabamba' ('The swallows never migrate from Cochabamba') aptly describes what cochabambinos believe is the world's most comfortable climate, with warm, dry, sunny days and cool nights. The coolest time of year is winter (June-August), with clear skies and mild temperatures.

    La Paz Weather, Bolivia

In summer (November to April) the climate can be harsh: rain falls most afternoons, the canyon may fill with clouds and steep streets often become torrents of runoff. In winter (May to October) days can be slightly cooler, with temperatures reaching 18-20°C (64-68°F). At night it often dips below freezing and you'll need to come prepared with warm clothing all year round.

    Santa Cruz Weather, Bolivia

Santa Cruz and the Eastern Lowlands have a semi-tropical climate - the region is much warmer than the high-altitude Andean towns and cities. The dry winter months (May-Oct) are the most pleasant and comfortable time to travel here. The rainy season (Nov-Apr) can be miserable in the lowlands, with mud, high humidity, biting insects and relentless tropical downpours. Getting to and from Santa Cruz overland can be tough at this time. December and January are the wettest months.

Climatically, the best months to visit are August, September and October, after the worst of the winter chills and before the summer rains. From May to early July, night-time temperatures combined with stiff winds can lower the windchill temperature to -40°C (-40°F). Summer is warmer but, for an arid area, there's quite a lot of rainfall between November and March. At any time of year you'll need protection against sun, wind and cold.
